01/28/11-by Bridgette P. LaVictoire
The Advocate is reporting that a local pastor who attended the funeral for David Kato caused a fight to break out after he grabbed the microphone in the middle of the ceremony in order to decry homosexuality. The end result appears to have been that the villagers refused to bury Kato’s body. In the end, his friends buried his remains.
Kato was bludgeoned to death with a hammer. Last October, he was one of the people who was outed in picture by the local newspaper Rolling Stone, which also called for the deaths of the individuals that they outed.
The pastor is reported to have said “The world has gone crazy. People are turning away from the scriptures. They should turn back, they should abandon what they are doing. You cannot start admiring a fellow man.”
The advocate reports:

“Who are you to judge others?” a female activist yelled. “We have not come to fight. You are not
Kato was the advocacy officer for Sexual Minorities Uganda or SMUG.
Scholars who are not invested in maintaining the absolutes of non-Biblical traditions have pointed out that the Bible has no actual admonitions against homosexuality. In fact, the Bible appears to have no real strong statements about anything other than what could be construed as anal intercourse. Many early cultures did not ban what is now considered homosexuality, but did ban anal intercourse due to hygienic reasons.
President Barack Obama has condemned the murder and called for the Ugandan government to ensure that his murderer or murderers are brought to justice. (article from http://lezgetreal.com)
